Clarity grading describes these characteristics - from stones so pristine they are deemed "flawless" to those with more pronounced features. Minor inclusions are visible under magnification but typically invisible to the naked eye. This is the "sweet spot" for value in quality. You get a diamond that looks flawless to the naked eye.
Slightly Included (SI1 & SI2)
Inclusions visible under magnification and sometimes visible to the naked eye, depending on size and location. Many SI1 diamonds are "eye-clean," meaning you get a beautiful look for a budget.
Included (I1, I2, I3)
Inclusions are obvious to the naked eye and can affect the stone's brilliance and durability. These should be avoided for fine jewellery like engagement rings.

Feathers: Delicate internal fractures that resemble wisps or feather-like plumes. Small feathers are usually harmless and invisible; large ones near the surface may be noticeable.
Clouds: Hazy groups of tiny pinpoints clustered together. If a cloud is dense enough, it can make the diamond look slightly milky or hazy.
Twinning Wisps: Streaky patterns that tell a fascinating story they occur when the diamond paused its growth and then started again, creating amalgamations of pinpoints, needles and feathers that point to different growth phases.
Knots: Crystals that reach the diamond's surface, appearing as small raised bumps.
Graining: Natural growth lines formed as the crystal develops, visible as faint scratches from certain angles.
Cavities: Small openings or indentations on the surface, usually occurring when a tiny inclusion is released during cutting.
External Blemishes – The Surface Story
